While most of the Area IV/Kendall Square newbies have opened their doors by now (Firebrand Saints, Abigail’s, Catalyst, Area Four), there’s still one to go—Kika Tapas, a Spanish-style small plates restaurant from the folks behind Tapeo on Newbury Street and Solea in Waltham, which will be opening on Third Street near EVOO. I chatted with co-owner Carlos Reverendo to get some more details on the forthcoming restaurant.

Kika be relatively similar to its sibling restaurants in its tapas format, but it will feature some new dishes like sweet pork sausage with foie gras and apples, panko-crusted salmon with vanilla compound butter, and sauteed shrimp with asparagus, whipped egg and fried bread. There will be two new menu sections, as well: pinxtos, or small snacks (like boquerones and roasted marcona almonds), as well as charcuterie.

Drinks-wise, there will be several types of sangria on tap, as well as cocktails like the Kika 350, which contains muddled strawberries, agave, cachaca, pineapple juice and lime.

The name “Kika” comes from the title character in a Pedro Almodovar film; as a result, there will be a mural that’s an homage to Almodovar films (which include All About My Mother and Volver). Reverendo says that the space is seeking a retro feel, with red accents and a quartz bar.
