Burger King may be delivering its fast food options to Boston customers, but Tasty Burger is bringing food to hungry sunbathers at the beach.

Over the weekend, the owners of Tasty Burger announced a new delivery service based out of their South Boston location, which includes making trips to people who are spending the day on Carson Beach.

Tasty Burger had offered delivery service prior to the announcement, but used a third-party service to do so. The company has since discontinued that service at their South Boston restaurant, and purchased their own Tasty Burger Smartcar, complete with their logo wrapped around the vehicle, and will be making the deliveries themselves.

As part of the burger businesses new venture they will be packaging bulk orders in their new Tasty Burger coolers, complete with koozies at no extra charge, so customers can enjoy their food and keep it out of the blazing summer sun.

Those ordering from the L Street location can do so through Facebook, the Tasty Burger website, or the new iPhone app that the company launched over the weekend.

Instead of placing a call, customers can download the app on their smartphones, and then scan through the menu, and order food with a few taps on the screen.

Brian Reyelt, co-owner of Tasty Burger, says the burger shop saw quit a few deliveries over the weekend after the soft-launch of their new app, and beach-side burger service. “I think once word spreads we will be doing a lot more,” he says.

While they haven’t expanded the in-house delivery service to their other two locations just yet, customers can still use the iPhone app to place orders at the Cambridge and Fenway locations, and pick them up without having to wait in line.

The announcement about the smartphone app and South Boston delivery service comes weeks after news leaked that the owners were going through the licensing and permitting process in Cambridge to open a location in Central Square. Details on that venture are still undetermined, but the owners said it could open as early as this fall.

Tasty Burger first made its mark in Boston in 2010, when they opened their Boylston Street restaurant. The launch of a Central Square Tasty Burger will be a “home-coming” for owner Dave DuBois, who grew up in Cambridge on Magazine Street. In an e-mail, co-owners of the burger joint said DuBois is “super excited to be back in the neighborhood.”
