Beacon Hill Bistro Finds a New Chef

As Eater Boston reported last week, Beacon Hill Bistro and executive chef Josh Lewin have decided to part ways. It seems to be a win-win for both parties as Lewin has longed seemed eager to embark on a more ambitious project. Coincidentally, in his February review of Beacon Hill Bistro, Corby Kummer had this to say about the departing Lewin:

“Lewin is not just appealingly soulful and earnest. He’s another genuine talent to watch—one who needs a more disciplined setting. I hope he can use his Marine training to work his staff, front- and back-of-house, into shape. He deserves to be seen at his best.”

Lewin is currently taking some time off to travel and is looking to expand his Bread and Salt pop-up concept with business partner Katrina Jazayeri. Meanwhile, Beacon Hill Bistro has wasted no time in announcing Lucas Sousa as its newest executive chef. Sousa was most recently the executive sous chef of the award-winning Vidalia restaurant in Washington, D.C.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Sousa previously held sous and chef de cuisine posts within the D.C.-based Knightsbridge Restaurant Group and its restaurants Bibiana, 701 Restaurant, and The Oval Room.

“The reputation, standards and expectations of Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro are significant,” Sousa said in a press release. “Having done a stint at No. 9 Park several years ago, I’m excited and proud to have the opportunity to cook at Beacon Hill Bistro for the neighborhood of Beacon Hill and for the community of Boston at large.”
