For the third summer in a row, Narragansett Beer will be releasing its retro Jaws can to celebrate the anniversary of the film’s debut on June 20, 1975. For the summer months, all 12-ounce cans of Narragansett Lager in 12-, 18- and 30-packs will replicate the can famously crushed by Oscar-nominated actor Robert Shaw, who played the Ahab-like Captain Quint. In conjunction with the relaunch, Narragansett is partnering with the R.J. Dunlap Marine Conservation Program at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science to support shark conservation efforts in the Atlantic Ocean.

Narragansett Beer will sponsor the adoption of a shark through the purchase of a satellite tag, allowing researchers to track and study one giant fish. ‘Gansett fans will have the chance to name the adopted shark by submitting name suggestions through Narragansett’s social media channels beginning on August 10, using the hashtag #NameTheShark. Additionally, Narragansett will sponsor the purchase of a tracking buoy off the coast of Cape Cod through the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, based in Massachusetts.

Spielberg’s classic thriller is celebrating its 40th anniversary since filming began in Martha’s Vineyard in 1974.
