After a series of setbacks, which involved moving from the rear of Libby’s Liquors to the rear of Shalimar India Food & Spices/Dosa Factory, Bao Nation conducted a soft opening over the weekend. The newest concept from One World Cuisine, the restaurant group behind Diva, Kashmir, Mantra, and Bukhara Indian Bistro, had been delayed for months after their unexpected real estate turmoil. Now the dedicated bao bar, the first of its kind in Boston, is set to have its official grand opening on December 18.
To celebrate its launch, owners Pavan and Manraj Pabla (whose father Amrik Pabla is CEO of One World Cuisine) are giving away a free bao of choice between 5-7 p.m. for those guests who “like” Bao Nation on Facebook. The fast-casual restaurant, with its focus on fluffy Taiwanese-style buns, has slider-sized portions priced between $3 and $5. Bao Nation will also offer chicken and vegetarian dumplings and rice bowls that will start at $9.
Bao Nation’s menu included toppings like pork belly, crispy fried duck, yogurt-marinated chicken, and grilled calamari. Check out their full menu below.
Open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., 571 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge; 617-547-0295
