Celebrity Chefs Make Super Bowl Bet

Mario Batali and Michael Schlow get into the spirit with their public crustacean wager.

Assuming air compression issues don’t derail Super Bowl XLIX more than they already have (and they won’t), there will be hundreds, if not thousands, of friendly wagers made between celebrity fans on both coasts. Expect some ridiculous bet made between Seattle native Rainn Wilson and fellow The Office alum, John Krasinski, who hails from Newton. I’m sure notable Seahawks fan Chris Pratt is arranging something similar with his Parks and Recreation costar Amy Poehler. Ditto Joe Perry and Eddie Vedder.

Now celebrity chefs are even getting on the act. Yesterday on Twitter, James Beard award-winning chef Michael Schlow (Via Matta, Alta Strada, and Tico restaurants) challenged Seattle-raised Mario Batali (Babbo, Eataly) to a gentleman’s bet around the big game. The stakes? Batali has to send his friend a half-dozen extra large Dungeness crabs if New England wins. And if Russell Wilson can pull of another miracle win on February 1, Schlow will ship off a dozen Maine Lobsters.

One thing is for certain, the victor is sure to celebrate with some good eating. Stay tuned for more terrible wagers.
