Sam Monsour Back with New Fried Chicken Pop-Up
Chef Sam Monsour, who recently moved to Los Angeles to focus on his Project Hunger line of chefs aprons, as well as expand upon his “Future of Junk Food” pop-up brand, returns to Boston next week to compete in the Fifth Mick Dundee Pie Challenge at Harpoon Brewery. But the former JM Curley chef has an additional motivation behind his return. Monsour’s hometown will play host to his newest pop-up concept, “Chuck Taylor’s Fried Chicken All Stars,” where two competitors—Monsour and a host chef in cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles—each prepare a unique style of fried chicken, sides, and a “throwback frozen novelty,” all for $20.
On February 26, Roxy’s Grilled Cheese in Allston will play the inaugural host, with owner James DiSabatino preparing a Memphis-style fried chicken with honey, lime juice, and cayenne. Monsour will counter with his “Bojangles’ Carolina Style” chicken, which is brined in sweet tea and topped with Carolina Gold sauce.
One ticket includes a choice of fried chicken, both sides, bottomless mac and cheese, and (at least in Boston) a Hoodsie cup. Beer and soft drinks will be sold a la carte. And be on the lookout for future events, where Monsour will be selling custom Chuck Taylor’s with his fried chicken logo on the side. Below is the full menu:
