On January 1, Craft Beer Newton shuttered its doors citing that the 1243 Centre Street location “was ultimately too big and too pricey.” Owner Brian Shaw says he expected Craft Beer Cellar’s transition into more affordable real estate to be “far more seamless,” with a relaunch planned for early February. But now there’s finally a grand reopening in sight for the Newton outlet.

Tentatively set to open between March 14-17, the new Craft Beer Cellar Newtonville will feature 950-square-feet (down from 1,500 square feet at its previous spot), of inventory at 14 Austin Street, across from the Shaw’s supermarket. To celebrate its grand reopening, Shaw and his team of “Beer Geeks” will host a meet-and-greet gathering at the Brewer’s Coalition in Newton the first week in March. Then, on the official day of the launch, Craft Beer Cellar will host multiple beer tastings, and have on display a number of rare beers Shaw has been squirreling away for the right occasion. Expect hard-to-find selections from Cascade, Maine Beer Company, Cantillon, Firestone Walker, as well as cellar-aged beers from Founders Brewing Co. and others.
