First, Monmouth, New Jersey gets an exclusive look at the new Bavarian cream croissant doughnut and now comes word that Providence is getting first crack at Dunkin’s new “Deluxe Bacon Donut.” What the hell?

This morning, Shirley Leung, a business columnist at the Globe, Tweeted out an image of the bacon prototype, but when we contacted Dunkin’ about it’s potential arrival in Boston, Jeff Miller, Dunkin’s executive chef and vice president of product innovation said:
“This month Dunkin’ Donuts introduced the Deluxe Bacon Donut for a limited time at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in Providence. A bakery treat that offers the best of salty and sweet, the Deluxe Bacon Donut is available in two varieties:
• Deluxe Bacon Donut: Glazed Bismark topped with two strips of bacon
• Deluxe Maple Bacon Donut: Glazed Bismark topped with maple icing and two strips of bacon
We have no plans to make the Deluxe Bacon Donut available in other parts of the country at this time, but look forward to the feedback from our franchisees and guests.”
I’d say the odds are pretty high that both the Deluxe Bacon Donut and its maple counterpart will eventually see markets outside of Little Rhody, but Dunkin’s biggest groupies reside here in Massachusetts. Why can’t these experimental one-offs ever be unveiled at select locations around its Canton headquarters, or say, its original hometown of Quincy? The Bostonians who made the nine-mile trek wouldn’t even mind that it’s a blatant rip-off of Demet’s’ and Voodoo Doughnuts‘ bacon maple bar. We just want a hefty dose of sodium and sugar in one convenient package. Is that too much to ask?
