George Howell Coffee Opening in Downtown Crossing

George Howell Coffee has announced that it will be opening its second cafe in the upcoming The Godfrey Hotel, located at 505 Washington Street in Downtown Crossing. The pioneering coffee roaster, famous for inventing the Frappuccino, says the new Boston location will be reminiscent of his highly influential Harvard Square cafe, Coffee Connection, which was acquired by Starbucks in the mid-’90s.

The new George Howell Coffee cafe will be accessible to guests through The Godfrey’s hotel lobby as well as a ground-floor street entrance and will feature a European-style espresso bar, hand-poured single estate and micro-lot coffee servings, coffee tasting flights, group education coffee classes, and more.

Like Howell’s Newtonville cafe, which opened in 2012, the Downtown Crossing location will include true Grand Cru estate brews, quick-serve coffee for customers on-the-go, Howell’s full range of coffee beans (vacuum sealed in nitrogen-flushed 12-ounce bags), and locally baked pastries and other decadent concoctions.

George Howell Coffee at The Godfrey Hotel Boston will open along with the hotel this fall.
