Jim Miller and Rafael Barbosa, the restaurateurs behind Fire + Ice, are set to open a new bar and lounge at 205 Berkeley Street in Boston’s Back Bay on April 18. Appropriately named, Underfire, since it is located under Fire + Ice’s Boston location (there are others in Cambridge, Providence, and Anaheim, California), the space will feature craft cocktails, beers, burgers, and, yes, lava rock cooking.

Modeled after Japanese and Korean ishi-yaki cooking, customers can choose from six different types of proteins—including filet mignon, scallops, ribeye, and sesame-crusted tuna—and sear them on 600-degree volcanic cooking stones.

Other Underfire dining options include a build-a-burger menu with beef, turkey and veggie patties, to go along with a variety of toppings, such as pork belly, jalapeno aioli, and sriracha mayo. A selection of tacos includes everything from Peruvian-style grilled chicken to braised beef short ribs slathered in chimichurri, and bar snacks include hangover helpers like quesadillas and Buffalo calamari.

The completely revamped space will seat and hold up to 80 people including 15 at the bar, with oversized windows overlooking a St. James Avenue. Under Fire will be open Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to midnight; Thursday and Friday from 11 to 1 a.m.; Saturdays from 10 to 1 a.m.; and Sunday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. A late night dining is set to be introduced later this summer.
