This fall, chef Andy Husbands will be opening a new barbecue restaurant called The Smoke Shop in the former Tommy Doyle’s space in Kendall Square. The Tremont 647 chef is calling his new concept a “passion project,” a culmination of his early years as a pitmaster under Chris Scheslinger at the East Coast Grill and his near 20 years on the competitive barbecue circuit with his team “IQUE BBQ,” which he cofounded with Chris Hart.

The IQUE BBQ team won the Jack Daniel’s World Championships, received first place for their brisket out of 510 teams at the Kansas City Royal, and has won more than 35 Kansas City Barbecue Society grand championships. Chef Andy has also authored four cookbooks, including the best-selling “Wicked Good Barbecue,” which he co-wrote with Hart and Andrea Pyenson.
