On June 23, head to Roxy’s Grilled Cheese in Allston and “eat like shit” for a great cause. Roxy’s owner James DiSabatino is teaming up with Kyle Marcoux (a.k.a. the Vulgar Chef) to create a number of gluttonous, greasy dishes to help benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank.
Marcoux’s The Vulgar Chef, a blog which began as pure satire, has developed a cult following—almost 80,000 followers on Instagram—for its over-the-top recipes like red velvet corn dogs, a ramen taco, and the S’mortato, a baked potato stuffed with marshmallows, graham crackers, and melted chocolate.
To indulge in the chef’s pineapple poutine, pork-laden grilled cheeses, and other artery-clogging creations, guests are asked to bring donations (non-perishable food items or unopened toiletries) to give to the Greater Boston Food Bank
The “Eat Like Shit” event at Roxy’s is being organized by Pineapple Crossing, a new hospitality brand that is dedicated to giving back to the community and the Boston restaurant industry.
“I think a food drive is a very tangible way of giving back,” says Matt Marini, founder and owner of Pineapple Crossing. “People can feel like they’re actually giving something. They feel like they’re actually participating instead of saying, ‘Here’s my credit card.’”
In addition to those “greasy-as-hell” sandwich specials, Roxy’s will also serve its famous truffle fries, a number of pineapple-themed drinks, and a wide variety of flavored seltzers from Polar Beverages. Several prizes will also be raffled off too, including JM Curley gift certificates and tickets to the Boston Harbor Whale Watch.
