New Curated Craft Cocktail Tour Stops in Boston This Spring

Cocktail Magic, from the co-producers of the Bonnaroo Music Festival, offers an all-star lineup of mixologists, plus DJs, food, and literal magic.

UPDATE, March 9: Superfly and the planners of Cocktail Magic released a teaser menu of a few of the speciality cocktails that will be mixed up on March 26. Take a look at the menu below. Roberta’s Pizzeria, the Brooklyn destination that’s providing the food for the festival, has also shared new details via a wacky YouTube video. Cocktails and slices of Roberta’s are included in the price of admission.

Imagine an early spring night when you can sample innovative cocktails by Boston’s best bartenders, without having to hop on and off the T. Now add a few guest mixologists from New York City, Chicago, and Denver; throw in some snacks from a hip Brooklyn pizzeria; a DJ set by Neon Indian; and throw in some magic tricks, just for fun. Sound surreal? It just might be.

It’s called Cocktail Magic. It’s a brand new festival, and it’s stopping in Boston in March. It’s curated by Superfly, the events company that cofounded Bonnaroo and has produced the legendary music festival since 1996, in collaboration with New York City cocktail visionaries Julie Reiner (Flatiron Lounge, Pegu Club, Clover Club, Leyenda) and Andy Seymour (educator, cofounder of Liquid Production, partner at Beverage Alcohol Resource).

Cocktail Magic brings Boston’s most celebrated cocktail destinations under one roof, along with some national heavyweights. The lineup includes:

  • Alden & Harlow
  • backbar
  • Cafe Artscience
  • Drink
  • Eastern Standard Kitchen & Drinks
  • Hojoko
  • Loyal Nine
  • The Baldwin Bar at Sichuan Garden
  • The Hawthorne
  • Broken Shaker (Chicago)
  • Clover Club (NYC)
  • Williams & Graham (Denver)

Roberta’s, a wood-fired pizza destination in Bushwick, is providing the bites, and they’ve teased the event in an other-wordly YouTube clip. Illusionists Jon Armstrong, Matthew Holtzclaw, Noah Levine, and Francis Menotti are making it a little weird. For the last hour, Neon Indian will set the beat.

“I love the idea of a traveling show that celebrates cocktail culture and the tight knit community of stars within it. Superfly has big, imaginative ideas, and the expertise to make them happen,” Reiner says, via a press release. The co-owner, beverage director, and consultant at several leading cocktail bars has collaborated with Superfly on numerous events before launching Cocktail Magic.

The fair kicks off in Washington, D.C. on March 12; stops in New York on March 19; visits Boston on March 26; and culminates in Chicago on April 1.

A portion of ticket sales support the Well Dunn Foundation, a nonprofit that matches outstanding collegiate students with internships in the entertainment industry.

Tickets are on sale now and include admission, tastes of a variety of cocktails, food, and entertainment.
