Commuters heading through South Boston in the morning have a new option for coffee, breakfast, and community. Coppersmith Café opened this morning at 7 a.m.

The café is attached to Southie’s expansive “foodie playground,” Coppersmith, a dynamic, globally-inspired restaurant that opened in September with two, indoor food trucks. The industrial venue spans 10,000 square feet with free, high-speed WiFi throughout. The café, 1,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, is accessible with its own entrance from Bolton Street.

There’s a full menu of George Howell Coffee Roasters drinks, as well as J’enway Teas black, green, chai, and red varieties. Grab-and-go breakfast items, like a breakfast sandwich on a Stone + Skillet English muffin; and chia pudding parfait with seasonal fruit, join a variety of treats from pastry chef Craig Williams, including a bacon pecan sticky bun, a peanut butter and jelly scone, and mocha espresso marshmallows.

I wanted a menu that my 3-year-old son would be excited to eat anything off, while at the same time my most particular of friends would still find interesting,” Williams says. The opening menu plays off nostalgia: “Everything will be reminiscent to something we all ate or craved growing up,” he says.

For lunch, there are soups, seasonal salads, a soba noodle bowl, sandwiches, and house-made, salt-and-vinegar potato chips. For $10, upgrade to a “lunch box” with a sandwich, cookie, and bag of chips. Other snacks include caramel popcorn and chili-lime pork rinds.

Within the month, the café will have a seasonally-rotating selection of three wines by the glass (red, white, and sparkling), plus five craft beer cans, like 21st Amendment Brew Free of Die IPA; Harpoon UFO White; and Downeast Cider.

Coppersmith Café is open daily from 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
