Boston Calling returns to City Hall Plaza next month, and the festival is stepping up the sustenance for its seventh installment.
New this year will be a barbecue spread from Marlborough’s Firefly’s; wood-fired pizza from CopperDome Crust, a gilded mobile pie shop based in Reading; Zinneken’s Belgian-style waffles; salads, grain bowls, and snacks from Whole Heart Provisions; and even steak sandwiches and lobster rolls from the upscale Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Bon Me, Tasty Burger, and Sicilian-by-way-of-Brooklyn street food specialists Arancini Brothers are returning to the concrete playground. Those choices should satisfy even the most intense dancers through three nights of sets by artists like Robyn, Sufjan Stevens, and Janelle Monae.
The booze offerings are getting an upgrade this spring, too. Original beverage sponsor Samuel Adams Beer is back, this time with its Porch Rocker radler for the first time, plus Summer Ale, Rebel IPA, Angry Orchard cider, and other selections. But drinkers will want to save some (okay, probably a lot of) beer money for a festival-only release from acclaimed Danish brewery Mikkeller. Details on that special draft are forthcoming.
Oenophiles will want to take advantage of the festival’s new partnership with Wine Riot. The Boston company is curating a selection of sips, including fest-friendly canned Sauvignon blanc, rosé, and pinot grigio from brand-new company Lila Wines; juicy Wildflower Valdiguié from J. Lohr Estates; Farmer’s Fizz, a rustic, Prosecco-style bubbly from Westport Rivers on the South Coast, and more. Wicked Wines is coming back with its pinot grigio, merlot, and some VIP options, too.
The biannual Boston Calling is also upping the entertainment ante with its first-ever comedy stage, hosted by Boston’s own Lamont Price.
