Any excuse to kick back with a margarita and some speciality tacos is a good one, and Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican food lover’s dream. Here are a dozen places to find the coldest cervezas, most inspired menus, and the friendliest fiestas. ¡Salud!

Coppersmith

Don’t fill up on complimentary chips and salsa, because chef Jason Heard’s two-for-$5 taco menu has selections like grilled shrimp with chili glaze, refritos, and tomato salsa; and crispy sweet plantains with guacamole and West Indian hot sauce. There are also pulled pork nachos with Grandma Clarice’s Carolina mustard, and a gazpacho with cornbread croutons. The springtime soup is a collaboration with Elmer Sanchez, East Coast Grille’s first-ever cook, who made the move to Coppersmith with Heard.

Doughnuts may not necessarily come to mind when envisioning Mexican food, but the innovators at Kane’s are getting in on the Cinco de Mayo spirit with a margarita version. The glaze starts with fresh-squeezed lemon, lime, and orange juices, it’s sweetened with honey and confectioner’s sugar, and a pinch of sea salt makes you want another bite. The best part is, you don’t need to wait until 5 p.m. to indulge. It debuts Sunday-Thursday in Saugus, and it’s available Monday-Thursday in Boston.

Available Monday, May 2-Thursday, May 5, $3.25, Two International Place, 90 Oliver St., Boston, 857-317-2654, kaneshandcrafted.com.
