Back Bay gets an airy new option for seasonal food when Dig Inn opens its 12th location next week. It’s the growing company’s first restaurant outside Manhattan, and the first of three Boston locations planned for 2016.
Dig Inn, founded by South Shore native Adam Eskin in 2011, offers grain and salad bowls with regionally-sourced ingredients. Boston-area vendors include Siena Farms, Kitchen Garden, MapleLine Farms, and more.
The Boylston Street location will feature the company’s first-ever breakfast menu. There’s an egg-topped breakfast quinoa bowl, and grains also show up on the morning menu with options like gluten-free quinoa waffles, and overnight oats with chia seeds. There will be a daily frittata, house-made sausage, toast spread with lemony beet ricotta and horseradish, and more. It also has a Counter Culture coffee program with a full range of espresso drinks, another company first. Both breakfast and coffee will be part of future Dig Inns. The Boston cafe also serves beer, wine, and kombucha on tap.
Lunch and dinner offers build-your-own “marketbowls,” a base of brown rice or tabbouleh with two sides, like a refreshing take on the poke trend with sesame and soy-marinated summer vegetables, and black kale and feta salad, and proteins like charred chicken thigh, grilled tofu, and meatballs. The 3,000-square foot restaurant also makes Dig Inn history by being the company’s largest so far. It seats about 40 on gray leather banquettes, light wood benches, and coral-backed chairs, around communal, wood and granite tables. It has a huge open kitchen, and an outdoor patio on Boylston Street.
Dig Inn is ingratiating itself with local non-profit agencies in its new city. It has partnered with Future Chefs to have students interested in culinary career paths apprentice at the restaurant for six months, and the company also announced plans to donate surplus produce to Lovin’ Spoonfuls, for redistribution among its network of partners and shelters.
Dig Inn has signed two more leases in Boston. Expect locations to open in Downtown Crossing and the Prudential Center late this fall or early this winter, according to a rep.
The Boylston Street restaurant debuts Wednesday, July 13 at 7 a.m. Breakfast is served until 10:30 a.m. seven days a week, and Dig Inn will be open for lunch and dinner daily until 10 p.m.
