Just a few weeks ago, All Star Pizza Bar announced an expansion to the Beacon Hill area. Now, the Cambridge-based pizzeria is ready for business in Boston, with a grand opening set for Friday, December 9, at 10 a.m.

You can get a taste before then, though. The new restaurant is giving out free slices of pizza on Thursday, December 8, from noon-5 p.m. Cofounders and brothers Johnny and Kosta Diamantopoulos ran a similar promotion when their original, Inman Square location debuted, doling out around 1,000 slices, Kosta says.

The two also run All Star Sandwich Bar, which has stood as their original location for more than eight years. Despite the tenure, they felt the pizza spinoff lent itself more to expansion, though they still hope to grow the sandwich concept in the future.

The Beacon Hill pizzeria, located across from Massachusetts General Hospital, is nearly identical to the Cambridge one. Though it will offer some new daily specials and vegetarian additions, such as the Seitalian, with spicy Italian seitan sausage, tomato vodka sauce, house-made cashew ricotta gnocchi, and basil; and the Cheech ‘n’ Chongo, with jackfruit carnitas, jack cheese, mofongo, and spicy pickled red onions.

The new space is even close to the same size as the Cambridge pizzeria, seating about 20 people. It will serve lunch and dinner daily via counter-service. And while there are plenty of new pies, the pizzeria’s original menu of vegan-friendly and meat-topped slices will remain intact, along with the option to customize your own pizza with toppings like duck confit, jackfruit, and scallions.

The choice to open a new pizzeria near Mass General was no accident. Kosta Diamantopoulos previously told Boston that their family had some health issues that were resolved at the hospital last year. To show their gratitude, they plan to throw an exclusive pizza party for the hospital’s employees.

The pizzeria could soon be joined by a grill-based restaurant further down the road, a concept Diamantopoulos hinted at during an interview with Eater Boston. But until then, there’s pizza to be had.

All Star Pizza Bar’s Beacon Hill site will be open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
