UPDATE, Thursday, December 8, 10 a.m.: Craft Beer Cellar has reopened. “We couldn’t have done this without the help of the Town of Braintree and your support,” the store shared on Facebook.

PREVIOUSLY:

Sorry in advance, but this news could put a damper on your weekend plans.

This morning, a SUV crashed through the front of Craft Beer Cellar in Braintree. There were no injuries, but the front of the building suffered a ton of damage. A number of bottles set up near the entrance were broken, too, but the majority of the shop’s stock is fine.

According to WCVB, the collision happened after a driver’s gas pedal got stuck and sent him roaring through at least three sets of traffic lights. Although the driver blared his horn to warn others on the road, he ended up hitting another vehicle and skidded into the storefront.

Kay Lornez, one of the owners of the Braintree beer shop, was near the register when the crash happened.

“I heard a loud sound seconds before the car came barreling into the front of the store,” she told WCVB. “Amazingly, I was OK, the driver was OK, and no one was hurt. And the beer stayed intact, too.”

The crash is under investigation, WCVB reports, and Commercial Street is currently roped off.

Thankfully, everyone is safe and the majority of the stock was untouched.

“We will be closed through the weekend and hopefully open sometime early next week,” a CBC Braintree rep tells Boston.

We wish we could say this is the first time such a travesty has hit a local beer business, but it’s not. Jack’s Abby’s beer hall in Framingham had a similar incident happen in August. Luckily, there weren’t any injuries (or loss of beer) that instance either.

Drive safe out there.
