[UPDATE] Get Festive with Holiday Lunch at the Blue Room, Yvonne’s, and More
It’s the most wonderful—and busiest—time of year. Savor the time you have with family and friends this season by sharing an indulgent lunch. From annual festivities at No. 9 Park and Grill 23 & Bar, to decadent new series at instant classics like Select Oyster Bar, weekdays in December are merry and bright at these five establishments.
No. 9 Park
This holiday tradition returned to Barbara Lynch’s flagship just after Thanksgiving. Every weekday, chef de cuisine Ben Weisberger is offering up a la carte choices, as well as a five-course tasting menu ($75), with dishes like French onion soup with braised oxtail, gruyère, and roasted bone marrow; baked stuffed lobster for two; and other No. 9 Park classics. Throughout the season, guest bartenders like Misty Kalkofen (December 6), Ezra Star (December 19), Ryan Lotz (December 23), and more will be on hand to whip up the classic Tom & Jerry and other festive libations. To reserve, call 617-742-9991 or go online.
Weekdays November 28-December 23, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., No. 9 Park, 9 Park St., Boston, 617-742-9991, no9park.com.
The Blue Room
In a rebounding year for the Cambridge institution—Julia Child’s former go-to reopened this fall after a fire more than a year before—the Blue Room debuts holiday lunch for the first time in 20-plus years. Chef Joe Guarino’s a la carte menu has options like red kuri squash soup with pumpkin leather; grilled beef coulotte with glazed root vegetables, mushroom catsup, and sunchoke chips; and more. Reserve online or by calling 617-494-9034.
Weekdays December 5-23, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., the Blue Room, One Kendall Square, Bldg. 200, 617-494-9034, theblueroom.net.
Select Oyster Bar
Chef Michael Serpa’s cozy pocket of a seafood restaurant is celebrating the season with a $25, two-course lunch option every weekday. In addition to the regular menu of Faroe Island salmon crudo, blue prawns a la plancha, Maine lobster salad, and bouillabaisse Select, the holiday fare features specials like crab pappardelle with hazelnuts, brown butter, pecorino and sage. It all pairs well with Serpa’s impressive wine selection. Reserve online or by calling 857-239-8064.
Weekdays December 1-23, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Select Oyster Bar, 50 Gloucester St., Boston, 857-239-8064, selectboston.com.
For a little nostalgia and a lot of glam, check out holiday lunch menu at this hallowed hall. Formerly Locke-Ober, lunch at Winter Place was up there with orchestra seats at the Boston Ballet’s the Nutcracker among storied holiday traditions. These days, culinary director Tom Berry and executive chef Juan Pedrosa are inspired by that 135-year-old history, offering a few plates straight from the Locke-Ober recipe vault, reimagined for Yvonne’s social style of dining. The elegant spread includes canape Martha with Maine crab, gruyère, cream sauce, and toast; baked stuff lobster thermidor for two with brandy cream sauce and herb butter; and sticky toffee pudding for dessert, with eggnog ice cream and rum float—or an extravagant, flaming baked Alaska to feed a crowd. Reservations are required by calling 617-267-0047.
Inquire about availability on Fridays, December 9, 16, 23, and Saturday, December 24, seatings at 12, 12:30, 1, and 1:30 p.m., Yvonne’s, 2 Winter Place, Boston, yvonnesboston.com.
Grill 23 & Bar
This incomparable steakhouse from the Himmel Hospitality Group celebrates annually with seasonal lunch options. The full, regular dinner menu is available this year, with festive additions, like Brandt beef stroganoff, a New England lobster roll, and a satisfying grass-fed beer burger with sautéed onions, mushrooms, and Swiss cheese.
Weekdays December 12-23, 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m., Grill 23 & Bar, 161 Berkeley St., Boston, 617-542-2255, grill23.com.
In Waltham this month? The Somerville-based Alpine Restaurant Group’s suburban restaurant has a $36, three-course lunch menu available throughout December. Alongside regular lunch offerings, build-your-own prix-fixe with appetizers like bruschetta with roasted tomato and goat cheese; entrées, like mustard-glazed salmon, ribbons of mafaldine with pumpkin purée, or pork Milanese; and indulge with a piece of tiramisu, or apple crostata.
