Find Cheeky Specials for Inauguration Day at These Boston-Area Bars

Commiserate with likeminded beer fans over a pint of Slumbrew #ThanksObama stout, raising funds for progressive causes at Lord Hobo, and more.

As the Lord Hobo team has put it, no one knows for sure “what the future holds in its tiny hands” as President Barack Obama prepares to transfer power to Donald Trump later this week. If you’re in the camp that will be holing up and drinking heavily on January 20, 2017, take a trip to Camberville. Three watering holes north of the river have, er, commemorative specials planned:

The makers of Slumbrew are paying tribute to the 44th president with their newest beer release. “#ThanksObama is a warming and heartfelt message… [of] gratitude for marriage equality, healthcare reform, the protection of our civili liberties and eight years of progress,” says Somerville Brewing co-founder Caitlin Jewell. The nitro-poured stout is not a Russian Imperial style, she adds—rather, it’s an easy-drinking, 5.5-percent ABV with hints of coffee and chocolate. It’s a draft-only release, and the keg will be tapped at the Ward Street brewpub at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, and available throughout the Inauguration Day.

$7.50 per pint, Thursday, January 19, starts at 11 a.m., 15 Ward St., Somerville, 1-800-428-1150, slumbrew.com.

End of the World Bunker Party at Lord Hobo

On the night before Inauguration Day, the crew at this beer bar are giving back “instead of giving up. In light of what the future holds in its tiny hands, we at Lord Hobo would like to offer a space for those… to drink, laugh, maybe cry, and give back to some organizations that we want to see continue to stand up and fight for our rights,” the event page reads. Every beer order comes with a vote to donate proceeds to one of three national organizations: Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union, and BAGLY, the Boston Alliance of Gay Lesbian Bisexual & Transgender Youth. Event sponsors Prairie Organic Spirits, Night Shift, Jack’s Abby, and more have teamed up on an “Apocalypse Survival Kit” to raffle off, as well as other swag and specials throughout the evening.

Priced a la carte, Thursday, January 19, 4 p.m.-close, Lord Hobo, 92 Hampshire St., Cambridge, 617-250-8454, Facebook, lordhobo.com.

Golden… Sunshine Draft Party at Bukowski Tavern

Bukowski’s Cambridge outpost has been a stronghold of satirical specials inspired by the president-elect throughout campaign and election season. The latest iteration is cheekily named for a recent, very real headline, yes, but also for a fresh keg of Golden Sunshine. The tart and refreshing Berliner weiss, a collaboration from 21st Amendment and Cigar City, will be tapped for the occasion, and chef Brian Poe is whipping up more themed snacks, including free Ritz crackers, with an optional, $1,000-silver spoonful of of Russian Osetra Caviar. CNN and the inauguration festivities will be on the bar TVs.

Priced a la carte, Friday, January 20, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 a.m., Bukowski Tavern, 1281 Cambridge St., Inman Square, Cambridge, 617-497-7077, bukowskitavern.net.
