"50 States of Poutine," the return of Red Sauce Sundays, and more nourishing hygge.


For the past couple months, the Gallows team has been soliciting regionally inspired ideas from their guests for their Out of Control poutine specials. So far, they’ve served a Chicago-style hot dog poutine, a New York state-inspired “garbage plate,” and skyline chili from Ohio. This corn-and-ranch-chowder-soaked indulgence nods to Iowa’s peerless sweet corn, and its residents’ love of ranch dressing. Catch it on the menu this weekend and a bit beyond—the chefs are swapping in seasonally-driven, state-inspired treats every two weeks.

Hygge at Hobo

The Danish concept of coziness, hygge, is trending these days, as many people are looking for comfort in uncertain times. The cider makers at Artifact and the team at Lord Hobo are no exception: They are teaming up for a “Hygge at Hobo” brunch this weekend. The convivial meal doubles as the release party for Artifact’s new winter seasonal, Feels Like Home. A riff on New England cider (known for robust apple character), the cider is aged on rum-soaked oak chips. The kitchen is preparing soulful dishes, so keep your pajamas on and roll into the beer bar for some warmth and merriment.

Speaking of comfort food, the Salty Pig chef Josh Turka is bringing back the tradition of Red Sauce Sundays, started by former chefs Kevin O’Donnell and Michael Lombardi. (That duo has since opened the Coda Group’s latest, the James Beard Award-nominated SRV.) With Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin piping through the dining room, red-and-white-checkered cloths on the tables, and a bottle of Chianti, choose from specials like garlic knots and meatballs, fettuccine bolognese, chicken parm, brick-oven pizzas, and more. Can’t get enough of these classics? You can always be transported into Nonna’s kitchen with a trip to one of the North End’s best restaurants. And now’s a good time to book your spot at Coppa’s second GoodFellas dinner, a family-style, $65 four-course meal on Monday, March 13.
