A startup taco shop didn’t need a location on Jamaica Plain’s Restaurant Row to build a cult following—Chilacates has been getting rave reviews since it debuted near the Stony Brook MBTA station in July 2015. But now, owner Socrates Abreu has the more central location he dreamed of. Chilacates opened a 20-seat second location on Centre Street on Saturday, February 25, in the storefront that was the short-lived Pink Samurai Dumpling House.

“This is the first place that I really wanted to open [a restaurant],” Abreu told Jamaica Plain News. He grew up near the original location, though, and “my heart is there,” he said.

Both shops serve the same menu of corn tortilla-wrapped tacos, in classic combinations like grilled carne asada, chicken tinga, al pastor with pineapple, beef lengua, and papas con chorizo. It also offer burritos, quesadillas, tortas, enchiladas, and tostadas, a couple specials, like tamales; breakfast burritos, and drinks, like horchata and agua frescas.

Chilacates hasn’t updated the hours of its new location on social media just yet, but the original location is daily from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. (11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday). The JP News reports both locations plan to start offering delivery soon.
