Martignetti Liquors, a Brighton fixture since 1963, is closing up shop, as reported by Boston Restaurant Talk, but only for regular customers. The company has transitioned from a retailer to a wholesale regional supplier over the last several years, and closing its flagship store on Soldiers Field Road will complete the switch.
The cavernous package store will say its final goodbyes on Saturday, March 18. Twitter user Adam Bunnell posted a sign from the front door earlier this week that explained the transition to a wholesale supplier and closed with, “We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our customers and our community over these many years, and we thank you sincerely for your patronage.”
Carmine Martignetti and his sons opened Martignetti Liquors in 1933 in the North End, according to the company’s website. The Brighton location came thirty years later. While the business has had other retail locations, all had closed in recent years, with the exception of the Brighton shop, which was the final remaining retail location.
