Sure, a Fenway frank and an ice cold can of mass-produced lager are quintessential game day snacks. But baseball fans visiting Fenway Park this season don’t have to settle for the basics. Here’s a taste of the ballpark food that’s available at Fenway Park during the 2017 Red Sox Season.
The 67-year-old Yankee Lobster company is now the official lobster purveyor of the Boston Red Sox. That means Atlantic lobster, sourced by the Seaport company, comprises the ballpark lobster rolls this season. Yankee Lobster has two varieties—a classic, New England-style salad mixed with a touch of herbed mayonnaise and celery, on a piece of lettuce in a buttered roll; and a hot lobster roll, with warm butter and parsley.
These lobster rolls ($19) are available at a few concession stands within Fenway Park. The cold roll will also be hawked in the seats behind home plate, says Frank Zanti, the fourth generation manager of the family company.
“It’ll be a rotating menu throughout the season—fried shrimp, maybe a lobster mac and cheese thing. We’re going to have some fun with it,” Zanti says.
The local fishmonger’s products feature in other ballpark snacks, too. On the Big Concourse, true lobster lovers will find a lobster “poutine stak,” a pile of steak fries topped with lobster bisque and fresh lobster meat, cheese curds, and chives ($14). Aramark, the company that runs Fenway’s concessions, has a “test kitchen” stand on the Big Concourse, which proffers a lobster melt with Muenster cheese and tomatoes ($19) to lead off this season. That stand also serves surf-and-turf kebabs ($15), with skewered, Yankee shrimp and marinated steak tips courtesy of Savenor’s Market.
The Cambridge butcher became the official meat purveyor for the Sox last season, and Ron Savenor and team are back again in 2017. At Savenor’s stand on Yawkey Way, fans will find a short-rib grilled cheese sandwich ($12). Turkey and steak tip sandwiches are available at concession stands within the ballpark. Thinly sliced hot Italian beef with mozzarella and giardiniera is another Savenor’s special, available on the Big Concourse, as well as the Home Plate concourse and deck, and the Gate E concourse.
Back on the Big Concourse, Fenway is on the customizable salad bowl train with a new build-your-own produce bar on the lower level. In 2015, the ballpark staff planted a 5,000-square foot garden on the third base side of the ballpark. Last year, Fenway Farms produced 7,000 pounds of produce for in-park use, says Fenway Park executive chef Ron Abell. By late May, weather permitting, Fenway-grown flora will fuel the salad station, he says.
If you’re looking for the wackiest new ballpark snack, consider the meatball cone ($12.50). An exclusive from the Strega restaurant group, another new Fenway partner this season, the handheld meal wraps one of Strega’s larger-than-necessary meatball with pomodoro sauce, Parmesan, and ricotta cheese inside a chewy slice of bread. Find it on the Big Concourse, Home Plate concourse, and at Gate E.
Another North End staple is inside Fenway this year: Slices from Regina Pizzeria can be found at various locations throughout the park.
Craving a burger to complement your Kayem dog? Tasty Burger opens a third restaurant within the ballpark this season, in the Right Field Concourse.
Right field is also home to a new, in-seat, Tullamore D.E.W.-branded bar. As the official Irish whiskey of the Boston Red Sox (of course!), the Tully Tavern is 2,450 square feet within the Right Field Grandstand. While all ticket holders can belly up to the bar and hang out in designated standing space around it, barstools at drink rails—with cell phone charging stations, as any bar that opens in 2017 should have—are ticketed seats. Tullamore D.E.W. drinks will also be available at concession bars throughout the park.
Rather stick to beer? Jack’s Abby joins the likes of Harpoon, Sam Adams, and Sierra Nevada among the non-Budweiser options. Beer fans will also find New Belgium Fat Tire, SpikedSeltzer, and New England labels like Wachusett Green Monsta and Blueberry Ale, Long Trail Ale, and rotating choices from Shipyard and Smuttynose. The widest selection of craft beer is available on Yawkey Way, at the Big Concourse, the Home Plate Concourse, and the Third Base Deck, says David Freireich, head of Aramark corporate communications.
