What better way to celebrate National Ice Cream Sandwich Day on August 2?

August starts off sweet with National Ice Cream Sandwich Day and Hood is here to help you celebrate. On Wednesday, August 2, you can join the Hood staff at City Hall Plaza to get a free ice cream sandwich.

The Hood food truck returns for its fifth year at Government Center. The classic vanilla flavor will be on hand, as well as a limited-edition coffee cookies n’ cream sandwich. Hood is also teaming up with the Red Sox this year, and one surprise player will be hanging out on the plaza for an hour, help to hand out the gratis treats.

This Charlestown-born, Lynnfield-based company has been around for more than 170 years, and sets the ice cream sandwich bar pretty high with its simple, yet so delicious chocolate cookie bars. If you can’t remember the last time you had one of these staple New England treats, now’s the time to get one.

Wednesday, August 2., noon-4 p.m., City Hall Plaza, 1 City Hall Square, Boston.
