It has been quite a journey for Exodus Bagels. Adam Hirsh first introduced his New York-style bagels at the Egleston farmers market in 2015, and has been a regular source of carbs at breweries and elsewhere ever since. In 2016, he and his business partners successfully Kickstarted a Roslindale diner and deli, but announced in September they would pivot back to Jamaica Plain to open a small-scale café sooner.
And now, Exodus Bagels finally has that place to go for bagel sandwiches and coffee, six days a week. The JP café officially opens Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the former Canto 6 bakery space on Washington Street.
“After four months of grinding, we are finally ready to open our doors to the public and begin the long awaited feeding that we all love so much. Today we passed our final health inspection and are so f#%king excited to bring this incredible space to life with food and people,” Hirsh shared on Facebook.
So excited, in fact, that Batch #350 is on them (and yes, Exodus has numbered every single one of its batches). On Sunday, Feb. 11, bagels and cream cheese are on the house, along with a first look inside the eagerly anticipated shop.
When Exodus opens next week, it will carry the full market menu—sandwiches like Monumental (hard egg, bacon or veggie, onion jam, greens, and plain cream cheese), the Cluck (chicken salad, spicy pepper relish, smoked gouda, buckle greens), G & G (lox, tomato, red onions, capers), and more; cream cheeses in flavors like bacon-everything, white bean and other spreads; some sweets, and beverages. Check out the chalkboard menu, as seen during the soft opening on Sunday.
The bagels are made at the Roslindale facility, which is still going to become everything Exodus promised.
“We understand that the timeline for [realizing the 2 McCraw Street location into another storefront] is well past due but we are a small business that had to make this pivot to survive,” Hirsh reiterated in today’s social media announcement. “We thank you for sticking with us and hope you will come out on Sunday and check out our new digs and eat some bagels and cheese! ON US!!”
Exodus Bagels is open Tuesday-Friday from 7 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m.
