A food truck favorite is permanently parking in Charlestown. The Bacon Truck Café opens on Saturday, April 14, with coffee, cold-brew teas, and “more amazing bacon than ever before.”
The Bacon Truck owners Sam Williams and J.J. Frosk announced plans for the bacon-centric brick-and-mortar back in January. (It wouldn’t have been Massachusetts’ first swine-themed restaurant, as Worcester became home to the Hangover Pub in 2016, but that spot suddenly shuttered late last month.)
The café won’t replace access to street meat—the Bacon Truck continues to have regular lunch hours every weekday. The new space actually makes food truck vending continually possible by giving the Bacon Truck team its own kitchen to work out of, that’s double the size of their former commissary, Williams previously told Boston.
More space means a bigger menu. In addition to favorite sandwiches like Pork & Mindy, the B.L.A.T., and the Hangover, the Bacon Truck Café also has a $5 avocado toast on Iggy’s sourdough, with pickled red onion, queso fresco, bacon bits, cilantro, and togarashi spice. New lunch options include salads; and regular availability of the house-ground brisket-and-bacon burger, served flat patty-style on a classic Martin’s Potato Roll. The café serves hot and cold Fazenda Coffee (including a specialty Nutella cold-brew), cold-brewed EvyTea, and a house-made Arnold Palmer. Check out the full, opening menu below.
Williams and Frosk painted the 20-seat, fast-casual dining room pink, of course, and on one wall, children’s book illustrator Aaron Meshon reprised his adventure-bacon mural from the truck. Pending permitting approval, the café will also have an outdoor patio with industrial views of the Tobin Bridge and the Bunker Hill Monument.
The Bacon Truck Café will serve breakfast all day, and lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. Beginning this Saturday, it’s open daily from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekends, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.
