After a five-year run, one of Boston’s best food trucks is calling it quits. Munch Mobile Kitchen is closing for good at the end of 2018, and also shutting down its kiosk at the Innovation and Design Building.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell you,” Munch Mobile Kitchen posted on Instagram this morning. “It has been a fantastic 5 year run making new friends, filling empty bellies, and making all of you, our guests, happy to dine with us!! We will be moving on to different projects, so keep following us for updates to what may be coming next from the team!! We thank you all for a great run, and couldn’t have done it without all of you!!!”
Via email, cofounder Justin Bucenec tells Boston, “It’s solely a business decision. The food truck industry peaked in Boston, and we’re going to take our concepts and talents elsewhere!”
Stay tuned for news on what’s coming next for Bucenec and his business partner, chef Nathaniel Lawrence. The duo, restaurant industry vets who worked at Masa and Lucca Back Bay, respectively, before opening their food truck, launched Munch Mobile Kitchen on the brewery pop-up circuit in 2014, with a seasonal, American bistro concept. The truck was a regular at Night Shift Brewery, Mass. General Hospital, and the Greenway, among other locations. In March, Munch took over one of the shipping-container kiosks at the Innovation and Design Building, serving weekday breakfast and lunch to the Seaport crowd.
The Munch Mobile menu centered on elevated, playful comfort food, like a braised pork tostada with Sriracha crema; Thai chili barbecue chicken on Iggy’s ciabatta; chilled cavatelli with with burrata and chimichurri oil; and spicy togarashi fries with herb aioli and “lots of micro cilantro.”
For your final fix, find Munch Mobile Kitchen at the IDB Monday-Friday this week from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and on Blossom Street at MGH on Thursday, Dec. 20, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The food truck is going out with a party at Night Shift Brewery in Everett on Saturday, Dec. 22, from 5-10 p.m.
