Good news for your sweet tooth, bad news for your New Year’s resolution to eat healthier: getting your hands on some of the best local chocolates just got a whole lot easier. Beloved artisan sweetsmaker EHChocolatier opens a new, Cambridge boutique on Friday, Feb. 1, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The Best of Boston chocolatier ventures into its first permanent retail space in the Observatory Hill neighborhood of West Cambridge. EHChocolatier started out nearly a decade ago, and it’s Somerville factory store has long been among our favorite places to buy candy in Boston. EH has also won accolades from the New York Times and Food & Wine.

The Somerville workshop offered a charming view of how chocolates are made, but its hours were limited and its location was not so easy to find. The new storefront on Huron Ave.—a couple blocks from the flagship Formaggio Kitchen, and around the corner from Hi-Rise Bread Co.—promises easier access. Plus, you can still watch the chocolatiers in action, as all EHChocolatier operations have made the move to Cambridge.

The boutique will offer fan favorites, including Red Hot crunch bars—dark or white chocolate studded with spicy cinnamon candy and cayenne—and passion fruit caramels. Alongside gift boxes and bars, it even has vegan treats.

Owners Elaine Hsieh and Catharine Sweeney, who have been collaborators since making a mutual friend’s wedding cake in 1999, started EHChocolatier in 2010. Their products are sold online and at specialty retailers throughout New England, but the duo always intended to open a retail store of their own. They tested Cambridge’s appetite with a pop-up shop in 2017, and are “excited to be part of the West Cambridge community,” Sweeney told Eater Boston.

The timing couldn’t be better: Stop by on Friday for Valentine’s Day gifts, or simply for some of EH’s signature artisan sipping chocolate to wait out the polar vortex.

Beginning February 1, the shop is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturdays.
