1.Peggy’s Cove
Nova Scotia has over 160 historic lighthouses but none are more iconic than Peggy’s Point Lighthouse in the small fishing village of Peggy’s Cove. An hour’s drive from Halifax, the village hosts a number of restaurants serving fresh lobster, fish and chips, seafood chowder, and crab cakes.
2. Cape Chignecto
Cape Chignecto offers 40 kilometres of wilderness trails and remote walk-in campsites boasting rare plants, sheltered coves, and remnant old-growth forests. The wilderness park has ample opportunities to kayak, plus a picnic area perched on the 600 foot cliffs overlooking the Bay of Fundy. There are also cabins available to book within the park that can accommodate 4–6 people.

3. Bay of Fundy
The Bay of Fundy is one of North America’s seven wonders, with the highest tides on the planet! Take a tour of Joggin’s fossil cliffs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see the imprint of ancient trees, ferns insects, and amphibians on the rock. Or, go kayaking or whale watching in the Fundy Aquarium Ecozone to see humpback, finback, and right whales.
4. Town of Lunenburg
Lunenburg is a cheerful, quaint town with brightly painted houses on Nova Scotia’s south shore. The town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique historical architecture. Go on a walking tour during the day to learn more about the 18th century buildings or one during the evening that unearths local haunted spots, if that’s more your style.

A trip to Nova Scotia isn’t complete without trying its famous lobster. Catch some waves at Lawrencetown Beach, which is a convenient a 30-minute drive from Halifax. There are lifeguards on duty from June until early September, making it a great place for surfing beginners. In true Canadian style, more advanced surfers bring their wetsuits, gloves, and hoods to ride the waves in the winter.
7. Wine tasting in Halifax
Take a wine tasting class at Obladee Wine Bar in Halifax and experience the difference flavors of “natural wine.” Learn about the four main styles of Nova Scotian wine (which pair with four delectable cheeses) and aspects of the region as a whole. The spot often features live music, so sit back, sip on some vino, and enjoy some maritime charm with your dining experience.
