From Coffee to Popcorn to Cocktails, Here’s How to Enjoy Self-Care Even on Boston’s Bad Weather Days
Any day can be made into a self-care day—even if the Boston weather tells you otherwise. And it doesn’t always have to be a solo endeavor, either. Gathering some friends and heading downtown, rather than braving whatever elements the New England weather has in store, can be the perfect path to a mental reset. Plus, it can integrate a new and exciting element into your self-care regimen: fun.
That’s not to say the stereotypical concepts of self-care aren’t fun—who doesn’t love a relaxing bath or binge watching some TV on the couch—but there are more social ways to score a mental health boost. In Boston, a trip to The Hub on Causeway can give you a full morning, day, and night of rest and recreation.
After kicking your day off with some fuel and delicious food at any of The Hub’s dining spots, you’ve got options for an easygoing and mellow afternoon before heading into a more celebratory night—and you and your group can achieve that whole 1-2-3 all on the same block. When you’re ready to gather some friends, escape bad weather, and lift your spirits, here’s our itinerary for a full day at The Hub on Causeway.
Get your coffee fix
Nothing says self-care like starting your day off with the perfect cup of coffee (and the delectable pastry to accompany it). Blank Street is arriving soon at The Hub, bringing you a new daily coffee ritual with their clean, natural, and high-quality menu. Enjoy unique drinks like the Pistachio Latte, Cold Brew, or their new Banana Bread Matcha Latte. Or, hit Starbucks inside Star Market’s first floor (and by the way, it’s the largest Star Market in the city) to taste-test some of the fall menu classics—it is PSL season, after all—or Café Nero for Italian-style coffee with a friendly, local feel.
And if you’re hoping to have that classic self-care experience of detoxing, rejuvenation and health-focus, The Hub has something for you, too: Juicygreens is a plant-based juice bar where you and friends can enjoy cold-pressed juices and smoothies over toasts, salads and bowls. Your body will thank you—and so will your palate.
Catch a matinee and have a sip
Maybe self-care is typically characterized by a rom-com and popcorn while you lounge on the couch, but there’s something special about the big screen—and gathering with some friends to indulge in movie snacks can be just as healing. The Hub is home to a luxury AMC theater, so whether you’re a horror movie buff, a lover of action movies, or an art-film connoisseur, there’s no more relaxing way to spend an afternoon than in those movie theater chairs (especially with a cocktail in hand).
And though there’s nothing like those classic movie snacks and sips, don’t fill up during the movie—The Hub has opportunities for sips and bites while you and the team discuss your takes on the film you just saw. Now Pouring Wine Bar, located inside Hub Hall, offers cocktails, beer and ciders alongside a regularly changing wine menu. While they serve wine by the glass, for a real friends’ day out, isn’t a bottle always the way to go?
Dance it out
Don’t think we forgot to include one of The Hub’s most iconic and memorable spots in your day of self-care and enjoyment: Big Night Live is the perfect, celebratory way to spend your night. There’s always a changing calendar of events at BNL, and coming in late September (then coming back on the regular) is Bingo Loco: a blend of boozy bingo, raves and good-old-fashioned fun. It’s a one-of-a-kind way to party, play games, and earn exciting prizes.
And with more concerts to come in the season ahead, dancing it out has more self-care benefits than you might’ve thought: The endorphin release of a dance move will put a smile on your face, and there’s always some bonding to be had when you’re letting loose in a circle of friends under colorful lights. Some of Big Night Live’s upcoming can’t-miss music events are Laszewo’s electronic dance beats on October 10th, Brad Tursi (of Old Dominion) coming to the stage on October 13th with a country, pop, soft rock combo, and Elyanna, a singer-songwriter blending Arabic-pop with Latin rhythms, taking the mic on October 25th.
Ultimately, just know that on your days off, you don’t have to decide between solo R and R and time catching up with besties, nor do you have to mourn the loss of a day outside to bad weather—they can all be blended into one at The Hub on Causeway.
