From 2023 to 2024, the City of Boston’s Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion gave out SPACE (“Supporting Pandemic Affected Community Enterprises”) Grants to 90 small businesses, prioritizing industries most affected by COVID. The funding—a total of $10 million—came from the American Rescue Plan Act and was used to help restaurants, retail shops, repair companies, and other businesses with expenses related to new leases. The goal: to bring people back to commercial districts, revitalizing the city’s economy.
