Work up a sweat, and do it in style. Boston’s tourism industry is booming, and big name hotels are opening left and right. This means they’re working to cater to business and pleasure travelers alike, with high-end amenities and top-of-the-line equipment. If you’re a seasoned athlete or just someone who needs to squeeze in a workout, here’s five of the best hotel gyms in the city.
Working out at the Rowes Wharf Health Club & Spa is the picture of luxury. In addition to all the state-of-the-art equipment, there’s luxe amenities like sprawling locker rooms, a three-lane swimming pool, and a eucalyptus-infused steam room. The free coffee until 11 a.m. doesn’t hurt either.

Duck into FIT, the W’s 1400-square-foot gym, which is open 24 hours a day. The recently refurbished workout center has cardio machines that each have an LCD TV and iPod docking station, as well as a ballet bar, weights, yoga balls, and more. There’s awesome amenities too, such as free headphones, because we’re guessing you forgot those in your suitcase. Don’t skip the tabletop Bevi machine if you’re a seltzer drinker.

WAVE Health and Fitness is the hotel’s gym, which serves as a private health club in its own right. There’s rows and rows of Cybex cardio machines and strength training equipment, as well as an indoor swimming pool and private classes. Open 24/7 with a prime location close to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and the World Trade Center, you’ll find plenty of conventioneers sweating away the day at WAVE. Don’t skip the steam room post-workout.

If it’s celebrity sightings that’ll get you to the gym, look no further than Equinox Sports Club at the Ritz, where everyone from Colin Farrell to Maria Shriver has worked out. While hotel guests do have to pay a $15 fee to get in (unless you’re staying in the hotel’s Luxury Parkview Suites or the Presidential Suite—then it’s free) the 114,000-square-foot fitness center is a sunny, luxurious spot to blow off some steam. They’ve got everything from squash courts and a juice bar to a sauna and a 25-yard indoor swimming pool.

It’s all about the view at the Fairmont, whose rooftop gym boasts a stunning view of Copley Square. The 24-hour facility has a loft-like vibe, with plenty of cardio equipment with built-in entertainment systems, as well as weight machines and additional tools for resistance training. The Fairmont also hosts yoga classes on Saturday mornings, so we suggest sunning yourself post-class on their spacious outdoor deck while enjoying the breathtaking view.
