Still mourning the vacation that got booted from your calendar this summer? We’ve got five reasons why it’s always a good time to make your escape: these recently opened stays across New England.

The Brenton Hotel

We could all use a little luxury right about now, no? Newport’s Brenton Hotel is certainly a good place to go looking for it. The 57-room destination features spacious digs with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city and harbor, in addition to azure décor and wood furnishings that lend a contemporary nautical vibe. The Brenton also offers visitors access to a private rooftop as well as a 36-foot yacht that guests can reserve for private charters. Other above-and-beyond touches include a dog concierge offering sitting and dog walking services at hotel, and in-room Peloton bikes available by request. Just remember that Massachusetts travelers must complete an out-of-state travel screening form and certificate of compliance before visiting Rhode Island.

Sandy Pines Campground

When it comes to COVID-19-era accommodations, glamping checks nearly all of the physical distancing boxes. If you’re eager to give it a go, Kennebunkport’s Sandy Pines Campground has all of the amenities and natural scenery you’d expect, plus a hefty dose of kitsch thanks to three one-of-a-kind escapes new to its already wide roster of retreats. The playful, transportation-themed lodgings include a cheerful yellow 1970’s Volkswagen bus with boho-inspired interiors, a 1977 airstream trailer appointed with a queen bed and AC, and a midcentury camper decorated in turquoise hues and outfitted with string lights. Set along a salt marsh, these hideaways also feature outdoor picnic areas and offer abundant privacy. But a quick reminder: Massachusetts visitors must quarantine for 14 days or have proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test before heading to Maine.

The Wayfinder Hotel

Another new and highly distinctive hotel on the scene this summer in Newport: the Wayfinder. The 197-room getaway (which also boasts 30 suites with wet bars and sitting areas) is both undeniably inviting and oh-so-Instagram-worthy. From the common areas to the guest rooms, it’s all about coastal-bohemian flair brought to life by an eclectic mix of custom furnishings, vintage pieces, and abundant local art. The high-style property doesn’t skimp on the amenities either, with an outdoor pool, full-service restaurant (which offers room service), and a coffee shop all on-site.

907 Main

If you’re itching to get out of your apartment without heading too, too far out into the world, we might suggest booking a staycation at 907 Main, which opens September 9 in Central Square. The escape features 67 modern, neutral-hued guestrooms as well as a two-room suite with a private balcony. The Dial, 907 Main’s bar and restaurant, meanwhile, is awash in bold colors and textures. The eatery will offer to-go meals, and at a later date, the hotel will also unveil a rooftop bar and first-floor storefronts for Toscanini’s Ice Cream and Praliné Artisanal Confections.

The Edgartown Inn

For those craving a dose of island serenity, Martha’s Vineyard’s charming Edgartown Inn should do the trick. The boutique hotel was built in 1798 as a sea captain’s dwelling but later was converted into an inn and changed hands frequently over the decades. In July it reopened after extensive renovations by its owner, Lark Hotels, in collaboration with Boston interior designer Rachel Reider. Now the 12-room inn takes on a laid-back vibe with a soft color palette and aesthetic inspiration from the island’s many farms and gardens (think: linen, rope, and wood elements and art by local photographers and painters). Plus, in addition to its individual rooms, the hotel also offers weekly rentals of the entire property for families and small groups.
