An Important Recall for Donut-Loving Club Kids
We stopped at the Dunkin Donuts across the street from the Boston Public Library last night to get an oatmeal raisin cookie and were greeted with the news of a Dunkin recall. Thankfully, it didn’t affect our precious cookies, but if you got one of the store’s promotional Halloween glow sticks, you’ll want to pay attention to what’s after the jump.
The chain decided to give away the pink and orange glow sticks to customers who purchased a dozen donuts or a box of Munchkins. Local bloggers were confused by the promotion, as were we. Aren’t Munchkins and donuts their own reward? Surely we do not need the bounty of a plastic tube of chemicals to further entice us to purchase our carbohydrate-rich treats.
It’s a moot point now, as the chain has recalled the toys due to the strangulation and choking risks posed by the cap and lanyard. The glow sticks are good for something, however– if you return one, you get a free donut. Now that’s marketing done right.
