Thursday evening, local wedding guru and author Abby Larson of Style Me Pretty blog teamed up with Gilt City to celebrate the launch of her first book —Style Me Pretty Weddings: Inspiration and Ideas for an Unforgettable Celebration (she filled us in about it on Bostonista last month) — with a soiree at Grettacole. The party featured passed hors d’oeuvres, La Marca prosecco,  Delicious Desserts cake truffles, and arrangements by Winston Flowers.

I could feel the excitement as wedding-obsessed guests flipped through the book full of darling DIY wedding ideas and tips. Larson read an excerpt, deftly answered questions about wedding etiquette, and gave career advice, telling one guest, “go for it sister!” Larson then posed for photos and chatted one-on-one with guests. She was humble, inspiring, and funny, too.

Ever since I worked at Vera Wang, I’ve been wanting to meet Abby. She let me in on some of her secrets, like the fact that she checks Amazon “six times a day… I’m so afraid of a bad review.”

Abby says she was nervous about writing the book: “I was kind of frantic because the wedding industry is so trend-centric. I was afraid that the stuff we were writing about was going to be out of date by the time it hit the shelves. So, we pushed for a year publication as opposed to two…” She then went on to tell me that her fears went away when she realized that months after writing the book, the pictures were still current and refreshing. She explains, “it’s because the brides didn’t just do a trend… They took a trend and they made it their own.”

Abby and her husband work together every day on the SMP blog. I asked her how they do it. She thought for a moment and said, “Laugh… a lot.”

So what can we expect next from Abby? She’s branching into home decor: “We are doing home stuff because, selfishly, that’s where I’m at right now. We have a lot of really fun stuff coming out soon. It’s sort of a hodgepodge of things like travel diaries, recipes,  tablescapes, and flower how-tos.”
