When Kaitlyn Chantry signed on to direct the Longwood Players in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in 2009, she didn’t expect to find a good man of her own—especially one dressed as a dog. “It’s kind of hard not to fall in love with someone when they’re playing Snoopy,” she says of Jason Luciana, the theater teacher who was cast as Charlie Brown’s pup. The pair bonded over their hometowns—they’d both grown up outside of Philadelphia—and over their shared sense of childlike wonder: One of their first dates was to a Harry Potter exhibit at the Museum of Science. Four years later, Jason proposed to Kaitlyn after a trip to the Funspot arcade, in Laconia, New Hampshire.
Inspired by that early date, the couple decided to host their big day at the Museum of Science, with a ceremony at the institution’s Washburn Pavilion beside the Charles River. Before the reception began in the Blue Wing, the bride and groom enjoyed the museum, crawling into a space capsule, posing with a T-Rex, and even starring in the electricity show. “It was a place that was really special to us, and it was nice to be able to experience it as a newly married couple,” Kaitlyn says.
Kaitlyn’s mother, Sandy, a professional costume designer, made the rockabilly-inspired bridesmaid dresses.
One of the ceremony readings was the Walt Whitman poem “All Is Truth.”
Sandy fashioned Kaitlyn’s necklace from vintage bead strands, while Kaitlyn made her bridesmaids’ earrings with finds from Boston Bead Company, in Harvard Square.
The couple snuck a kiss in a space capsule at the Museum of Science.
Kaitlyn found the table numbers—based on Margaret Colbert’s vintage dinosaur illustrations—on Amazon.
The bride and groom ordered their flowers, which included Anastasia roses, freesia, calla lilies, sweet peas, anemones, ranunculuses, and hypericum berries, from the website FiftyFlowers. Kaitlyn’s mother and bridesmaids assembled the bouquets and boutonnieres with ribbons purchased on eBay.
The couple’s forks featured wedding messages stamped by Sycamore Hill.
