Wrap Your Wedding Party in Cape Cod Luxury
When you’re planning a Cape Cod wedding, and you find yourself trying to answer the question “What do I get my [insert wedding-related person here]?” first ask yourself: “What would Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Princess Grace of Monaco do?” Both were head over heels for Nantucket Looms, whose exquisite textiles have earned a long list of celeb clients.
Whether you need a gift for your to-be, your wedding party, or you want to keep a few things for yourself—they have a new wedding registry—this hidden gem in the island’s downtown has iconic keepsakes for your Cape Cod wedding.
Since its 1968 start, “The Looms,” as its affectionately known, has grown to include a collection of unique home accessories and apparel, one-of-a-kind local artwork (the company represents approximately 80 artists). There’s even a newly-launched Pantry line of locally made provisions such as organic Nantucket cranberry chutney.
At the heart of the shop is the second-floor weaving studio, where you can watch the weavers at work, creating exquisite their textiles, blankets, throws, and scarves. Also check out the new Archival Wall, which features samples of award-winning fabrics, custom projects (for clients that include Chanel, the National Gallery, and Bill Gates), and correspondence from Jackie O and Hillary Clinton.
A favorite of gift idea of ours is the Vignette, created by master weaver Rebecca Peraner. She creates one-of-a-kind pieces by weaving genuine starfish, sand dollars, or seaglass on a loom with linen hand-painted yarn. And when the winter winds start howling—that’s in just 16 weeks, friends—your wedding party will be happy to cuddle up under their handwoven mohair throw, individually handcrafted from brushed mohair yarn and the most well-known of all Nantucket Looms’ handwovens.
