After Rich Hartman proposed to his love Nicole Gilbert during their vacation in Turks and Caicos, the couple set forth a celebration channeling the decadent vibe of the Roaring Twenties. “We wanted our wedding to be classy, timeless, and fun,” explains Nicole. And where better to go back in time than at Linden Place? This Bristol manse is the historic home that hosted Hollywood for the filming of 1974’s The Great Gatsby starring Mia Farrow and Robert Redford. In addition to the classic setting, every detail—from the spectacular fonts on the paper to beaded bling and a gold tone palette—hit a vintage or Art Deco tone. Take a look into their exciting day.

To accompany him down the aisle, Nicole bought Rich collar stays emblazoned with mottoes for a happy marriage.

Nicole’s friend Charlene helped the bride gather items for the out-of-town guest hotel bags—event details, stuff to do, a door tag (in a Great Gatsby-inspired font, of course), ChapStick, snacks, and more.

Clad in silk robes (a gift from Nicole, sourced from an Etsy shop), the ladies got ready at the Omni in Providence and upstairs at Linden Place. To keep everyone energized, they sipped mimosas and noshed on a catered breakfast from Whole Foods.

Rosaries were incorporated into the bride’s bouquet. “One of my grandmothers is still alive and the other has passed away,” says Nicole. “Family is very important, and it was an ode/remembrance to them.”

A nod to the name of Nicole’s family parish, the couple was married at St. Mary’s. “It love at first sight when I saw the church,” she remembers. “It’s stunning inside, the pastor was a hoot, and Linden Place is a block away.”

The couple and the wedding party took photos outside in Independence Park, including this groomsmen shot in front of an artillery battery.

The couple chose to give edible keepsakes, in part inspired by Nicole’s childhood home. “I grew up on an alpaca farm,” she explains. “My mom loves honey and has hives at our house. She worked with a local farmer to actually process it.”

“We wanted to do something special and unique for a guest book, and we loved the idea of a custom puzzle where guests could write well wishes that we could frame,” she says of this DoubleTroublePuzzles wooden puzzle.

A last-minute transportation decision, the couple shuttled guests and groomsmen from the church to the reception in a big yellow school bus. The bridesmaids traveled in style in an SUV Uber.

The wedding’s hashtag #meetthegilmans was a riff on their nickname—a combo
of the couples’ last names.

The wedding palette was rich in gold and ivory, with black as an accent. “There was mercury glass, and lots of candles were also really important,” says Nicole.
“I think they create a really romantic vibe.”
