Your winter wedding is poised to have all the elements—a white fur stole, sparkling decor, hopefully a light dusting of crystal snowflakes (we said a “light dusting,” Mother Nature).
Complete the Snow Queen glitz and glamour of your seasonal celebration by adding a little sparkle to your wedding beauty. Karen DeVincent, owner of the Beauty Cafe, gives a few tips on how to add shimmer to your makeup.
First things first: Go for the gold (or silver). Think shiny flecks for eyes, an iridescent sheen on cheekbones, or a shimmery glow to your lips. Although you’ll be dancing the night away, it’s important to not resemble a disco ball. So glamming up only one feature is the key to this look.
“While a touch of sparkle on your eyes looks amazing in photos, glittery eyes and shimmer lips together is way too much,” says DeVincent.
Not only are supercharged sparkle eyes pretty, but the extra shine brightens and opens them so you look fresh. She suggests adding a touch of sparkle to the lash line by dabbing cream highlighter on your lash line, then pressing the glitter into the highlighter. Try a small amount like Make Up For Ever’s Metallic Tan Glitter onto your lids with a flat concealer brush. Or avoid the glitter pot entirely and use sparkly eyeliner instead, like her favorite Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner.
If you’re a lipstick girl, DeVincent advises ditching the frosted or sparkly lipstick and instead choosing a matte color, then layering a little bit of shimmer gloss over it, such as Smashbox’s Be Legendary lipgloss in Pink Lady. “If you want just a tiny bit of shimmer, dab it into the center of your bottom lip to brighten and make your smile picture perfect,” she says.
To add an overall glow to your face, DeVincent says to layer highlighter over your matte bronzer. “That way, you can control the amount of shine you get,” she explains. “After you apply bronzer around the perimeter of your face and lightly across the apples of your cheeks, your forehead, and your chin, add the highlighter to your cheekbones, the tip of your nose, and the Cupid’s Bow of your lip.” She recommends Smashbox’s LA Lights Blendable lip and cheek color in Hollywood as a highlighter. To finish off, smile and add a tiny bit of highlighter to the apples of your cheeks and the tops of your eyebrows to boost your color.
When you want to highlight with a powder instead of cream, she suggests Bare Minerals Clear Radiance, which gives your skin a soft, sheer luster that brings out your natural luminosity.
Sometimes just adding a great sequined tip to your favorite nail polish or a pair of chandelier earrings is what you need to be polished with a hint of sparkle. Either way, it’s truly your day to shine.
