Wedding Venues in Kennebunkport, Maine

The charming resort enclave and its neighboring towns bring a Vacationland vibe to your wedding weekend.

With its indie shops, sandy beaches, and historical inns, the summer home of the Bush clan is also a picture-perfect spot for a wedding in the Pine Tree State. “An important element of what make the Kennebunks the perfect destination is that they’re just a stone’s throw from Boston,” says planner Audrey Zahares, owner of the Kennebunkport-based Azalea Events. “Our old-world towns capture all that is enchanting about New England.”

You’ll certainly feel that enchantment at Hidden Pond resort, a romantic hideaway nestled among 60 acres of birch groves in Kennebunkport. Throw an intimate bash inside the light-filled event barn, or expand your guest list with an outdoor fete in the adjacent wedding garden. The rustic theme continues at Wells Reserve at Laudholm, a 2,250-acre swath of dunes and woodlands in nearby Wells where you can celebrate inside an 18th-century barn. Complete with lofted ceilings and original horse stalls, the space can be completely transformed with rented décor to match your colors and theme, or enhanced with an on-site supply of antique props (steel feeding carts, wooden crates).

If water views top your must-have list, tie the knot at Kennebunkport’s recently renovated Nonantum Resort, opened in 1884. Seated on the waterfront lawn, guests will love watching your bridal party arrive by vintage lobster boat on the banks of the Kennebunk River. Talk about making an entrance.

Local Favor

Based in nearby Arundel, Maine Homestead churns out everything from homemade relishes and jellies to pickled carrots and beets. Give guests a taste of the local bounty with an 8-ounce jar of the company’s wild blueberry jam, a favorite among Mainers.

Consider the Mini-Moon

Equipped with such luxe amenities as floor-to-ceiling river-stone gas fireplaces and Frette bed linens, Hidden Pond’s private bungalows offer a peacefully indulgent respite from the weekend’s festivities. After starting the day with a refreshing scrub in the outdoor shower, treat yourself to a lazy afternoon of basalt-stone massages inside the resort’s treetop spa, or explore nearby Cape Porpoise Harbor with a three-hour guided kayak tour from Coastal Maine Kayak & Bike. Later, return to the resort for a farm-to-table dinner at Earth (pictured), where you’ll dine under the glow of an unusual chandelier: a preserved apple tree adorned with tiny white lights.
