A Colorful Past, Fall 2013
Designer Kate Patterson first admired the grand turn-of-the-century Brookline Estate more than a decade ago. During renovations, she painted the entry foyer white, refinished the floors, and added modern touches. Thanks to her keen eye, the home now has a cheerful, welcoming feel, complementing family life.

Made Her Way, Spring 2010
A Newton fixer upper gets a facelift when a stay-at-home mom and her husband infuse it with custom upgrades. Its high ceilings, gorgeous moldings, original floors, and intricate woodwork were carefully salvaged, while the owner added a custom library, a man-cave in the attic, and a camping room—complete with woodsy wallpaper mural and sleeping bags.

A Chestnut Hill Mission Revival carriage house is transformed into a home with that balances historical flair with modern appeal. Equestrian details throughout, such as the original rope-and-pulley carriage hoist, stall doors, and horse imagery, make this a truly unique intervention.

Industrial Strength, Winter 2009
On a quiet Somerville side street, a century-old factory at first seems abandoned. But beyond the property’s solid wood doors are a sunny courtyard and an Eden-like garden. The site’s two former brick factory buildings are now filled with a mix of handcrafted, contemporary, and antique decor, such as a pair of African statues that stand guard by a fireplace and a multitude of sun-faded Pakistani rugs.
