The annual MayFair has been a local fixture for 32 years, but this year, the talent was hand-picked by staff at Harvard Square’s own Sinclair. The two stages on Massachusetts Avenue and Church Street will be stocked with local musical acts such as Sheila Divine, Bent Shapes, Air Traffic Controller, Hallelujah the Hills, and more.

South End Open Market Opening Day

The South End’s legendary open market will reopen for the 2015 season this Sunday. Featuring an art market, a farmers market, and an array of food trucks, opening day signals the start of the summer season. Stop by one of 60 stands of fresh, local produce, or browse booths of handmade arts and crafts before grabbing a bite to eat at one of the 20 local food trucks.

Fourth Annual Step into Spring Fashion Show

Looking for ways to freshen up your spring wardrobe? Head to Assembly Row’s fashion show in Somerville, featuring the latest styles from local retailers. Enjoy cocktails, desserts, and appetizers from a few area restaurants, and even try your hand—or feet, rather—on the runway with the Best-in-Shoe competition, judged by local celebrities. All proceeds from the event will go to Project Smile, a non-profit that aids children victims of traumatic events.

SLUT: The Play

After debuting at the New York International Fringe Festival and enjoying critical acclaim and success around the country, SLUT: The Play is headed to MIT for three exclusive performances. The plot follows a 16-year-old high school girl who has been sexually assaulted, and details the journey she must take to overcome the aftermath and slut-shaming that ensues. The play is part of the StopSlut movement, started by student activists in 2013 to combat slut-shaming and rape culture.

Cinco de Mayo Block Party

Somerville’s own Taza Chocolate is taking over the block for an early celebration of Cinco de Mayo, complete with music, tacos, ice cream, and beer. Join this year’s participants, including The Happy Taco, Taco Party, Sabroso Taqueria Boston, NOLA’s Fresh Foods, Tortilleria La Nina, Scoopsies Ice Cream, and Slumbrew, for an afternoon of dancing, eating, and games.
