Bar Boulud pastry chef Robert Differ and his team were there for you last Thanksgiving when they launched a pop-up counter devoted to pies. In the pursuit all things sweet, the French bistro has decided to roll out another pop-up concept, this time in light of Valentine’s Day.

Starting on Tuesday, February 7, the Back Bay restaurant is launching its own chocolate shop and tasting counter in-restaurant. All month long, diners can peruse a list of chocolate-based treats for pre-order, such as bonbons, French macarons (not macaroons), and assorted cupcakes. Treats include bonbons like honey-hazelnut and aged rum with vanilla; red velvet- and birthday cake-flavored cupcakes; and “Shades of Chocolate” macarons, ranging from subtle hints of licorice to zesty orange delights. The desserts will be available all month long by the half-dozen or dozen.

If small bites aren’t your style, a le petite gâteau devil’s food cake is also available to order. The dark chocolate-based treat is layered with chocolate mousse, crème de cocoa, truffle, and topped with more chocolate for good measure. Orders for this decadent cake, along with the other small sweets, are accepted through February 28.

But if you want to try before you buy, the seven-seat chocolate counter will be open during lunch and dinner service to serve these treats as assorted tasting flights and single bites (sorry, no cake slices). The counter will also be pouring the restaurant’s monthly chocolat chaud, which for February is an Almond Joy-inspired hot cocoa.

Bar Boulud joins other choco-pop-ups across the river: EHChocolatier in Kendall Square, and Gate Comme des Filles and Somerville Chocolates in Harvard, so there’s really no excuse to forget a Valentine’s Day gift this year. Beginning next week, the Bar Boulud chocolate shop will be open daily for pick-up from noon-7 p.m., and offer counter service from noon-2:30 p.m., and 5:30-10 p.m.
