This was a big year for the leading men of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops, as Andris Nelsons extended his commitment to the BSO through 2022 and Keith Lockhart celebrated his 20th anniversary as maestro of the Pops.

Now, both orchestras are looking ahead.

The lineup has been announced for the 2016 season at Tanglewood, which—as in past years—features a hefty schedule of everything from classical music to pop culture favorites.

A few highlights for Nelsons include leading the BSO in performing Mahler’s “Ninth Symphony” (July 29), Beethoven’s “Seventh Symphony” (July 30), the first two acts of Verdi’s opera Aida (August 20), and selections from Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet (August 21).

On July 31, Nelsons will conduct the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra in the annual Leonard Bernstein Memorial Concert, presenting an all-Brahms program featuring Paul Lewis on piano.

Lockhart, meanwhile, will bring Seth MacFarlane—yes, that Seth MacFarlane—to the stage on July 10, to perform classic 1940s and 1950s selections from the Great American Songbook. Then, on August 26, Lockhart will conduct the Pops as they perform John Williams’ epic score from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Williams himself, who led the Pops from 1980 to 1993 and now serves as a laureate conductor, will return to the Berkshires twice in 2016, for “Tanglewood on Parade” on August 2 and “Film Night,” an annual favorite that he had to skip in 2015 due to an injury.

Additional special guests throughout the season include Yo-Yo Ma, who will perform with the Silk Road Ensemble on August 7 and with the BSO on August 27, and the Emerson String Quartet, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The season will kick off on June 25, with A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, and close out in September, with NPR’s Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! featured as one of the final performances.
