Covet

WORKING AT THE ISABELLA STEWART Gardner Museum – surrounded by 16th-century tapestries, Botticelli paintings, and ancient artifacts – gives Anne Hawley plenty to covet. But when we asked the institutions Norma Jean Calderwood director what she wishes for most of all, she said a poodle. “Every home needs a dog,” says Hawley, whose own pooch (named Crab after the canine in Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona) passed away in 2007. Currently overseeing construction of the museum’s Renzo Piano-designed addition, Hawley has little time for a new furry friend. But when she’s ready, she’ll request a poodle like the one above (her colleague’s) from Boston’s Animal Rescue League.
