Breaking: Clemens Named in Mitchell Report

Everyone probably should have seen this coming. According to ESPN and other outlets, sources close to former Yankee trainer Brian McNamee said that Roger Clemens is named in George Mitchell’s steroids report, which is scheduled to be released later today.

The report, which has sprung more leaks than the Valerie Plame affair, is not without its detractors. Former Herald columnist (aren’t they all), Howard Bryant wrote an excellent piece for ESPN earlier this week that had sources taking issue with Mitchell’s methods and ties to the Red Sox.

Regardless, McNamee’s presence as Clemens’ training guru has raised suspicions for years, and like the rest of you, we can’t wait to see the list of names this afternoon. Don’t get too full of yourselves, Red Sox fans. Schadenfreude is a dangerous thing.
