Boston Gets Roomorama

With the economy derailing like a commuter rail train out of South Station, we’re looking for ways to hoard cash for the upcoming depression. So we were excited to learn about Roomorama, a Craigslist-like site that allows people to rent rooms and apartments short-term.

The service got its start in New York, and recently expanded to Boston. Just in time for us to make some money during the economic downturn!

Bostonians can post their empty bedroom or apartment for Roomorama users to view. Once you have a traveler booked, they pay via PayPal and bring you a code. After they’ve checked in, Roomorama will transfer the money to your PayPal account, or cut you a check.

A quick spin around the Boston listings show some nice places available for rent. This Swedish grad student has an empty bedroom in his Southie condo. A Newbury Street room comes with a roofdeck and a washer and dryer. One is available in a Beacon Hill brownstone.

Sure, it’s not for everybody—the site doesn’t provide insurance, so if a visitor destroys a your house, your screwed. Come to think of it, maybe we’ll stick to freelancing.
